This speech shows that throughout America history, American people (have always been hoping for)  (have always been waiting for) a change on the situation of their life.
Liberty and equality are the principles of the Declaration of Independence..
People believed in their rights, that's the reason why slavery was abolished(the abolition of slavery was made possible).America has always been a hopefull land for the immigrants. In spite of difficulties, the American people have always fought,, have always been honest and dynamic. They stay united and optimistic.

In this part, we're talking about histocical events as the abolition of slavery, immigration, the winning of the West, the women rights for vote, and the beginning of the trade-unions.
Two major figures are emerging : J.F.K for the Space Exploration (the conquest of space) and M.L.King because he was the leader of the movement for civil rights.  Both of them wanted freedom, democracy, equality and justice. Barack Obama talks about them as marks, as symbols. People want to change Americans in spite of (some obstuctions) obstacles. They will be able to reach their goals (objectives) if they are united and work on together.
So, in this song, America'view  sounds optimistic.


J'ai fait de mon mieux mais je suis pas très content du résultat. Les expressions ne venaient pas et je trouve que j'ai fait trop de mot à mot.......
J'ai eu des pb avec la conquête de l'Ouest : les Américains n'utilisent pas cette expression "générique". (même sur Wiki) Même le film s'appelait : "how the west was won". Cela s'est fait sur de nombreuses années et ne se résument pas aux cow-boys et aux Indiens. Voilà pourquoi j'ai mis the winning of the West.....

Mais c'est fait, isn'it !!!
